RestoringVision’s 2023 Mid-Year Impact Report

Thus far, it has been another extraordinary year at RestoringVision as we remain committed and determined to solve the global vision crisis. Through ongoing global challenges, we have come together as a movement of people and changemakers creating increased access to clear vision for all – no matter their income or location in the world.

RestoringVision Travels to Hospital El Buen Samaritano in the Dominican Republic 

From July 16 to July 20, RestoringVision’s Mark Lorey, Vice President of Global Programs and Impact, and Gerardo Medina, Program Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean – visited the Dominican Republic (DR) to see firsthand the impact of vision services and eyeglasses provided by RestoringVision’s programming in the lives of people living in extreme poverty in the country. 

Addressing Presbyopia to Solve 81% of the Global Vision Crisis

One of the most hopeful facts about this global vision crisis is that while over 1 billion people globally have a vision impairment that could have been prevented or is yet to be addressed – 81% of this issue area is solvable with reading glasses as presbyopia is a major aspect of this crisis. This is particularly encouraging because we already have a cost-effective solution – reading glasses – and delivery models that can scale.

RestoringVision Continues Growth of its Leadership Team to Strengthen Response to the Global Vision Crisis

RestoringVision today announces the appointment of three directors to its leadership team to strengthen its impact in solving the global vision crisis. This follows a year of remarkable growth, in which RestoringVision expanded its reach by 48 percent in 2022. In 2023, the organization aims to reach over 4 million people living in extreme poverty with the vision services and eyeglasses they need to see clearly.

Advocating to Advance Eye Health on the Global Agenda

As we now come together as a united global community determined to help all people to see clearly no matter their income or location in the world, a momentum is building to include vision and refractive error, an area in which RestoringVision has dedicated 2 decades of work, on to the global agenda.
