The Classy Awards honor the impact of innovative nonprofits.
(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) April 7, 2023 – Classy, a giving platform that enables nonprofits to connect supporters with causes they care about, has named RestoringVision as a finalist for the 2023 Classy Awards.
Launched in 2009, The Classy Awards shine a spotlight on the innovative work nonprofits are implementing around the globe. Today, we’re proud to share that RestoringVision has been recognized for its commitment to solving the global vision crisis, as the organization creates equitable access to vision services and eyeglasses for people living on less than $2 a day worldwide. RestoringVision is the only optical nonprofit represented among the finalists.
Since 2003, RestoringVision has empowered 24 million people with clear vision, reaching nearly 3.4 million people alone in 2022. Creating access to vision services and eyeglasses unlocks human potential by creating continued opportunities for work, increased productivity, increased earning potential, continued education, increased safety, and so much more.
One billion people have a vision impairment that could have been prevented or is yet to be addressed. 81% or 826 million people suffer from vision impairment due to presbyopia – a common condition that can be easily corrected with a pair of reading glasses. Over 90% of people with uncorrected vision loss live in low-and middle-income countries with limited access to vision services. The lack of access to vision screenings, lack of channels for eyeglass distribution, and the inability for people to pay are significant barriers. For these individuals – a pair of glasses – a solution that has been around for 700 years – restores sight immediately and improves lives.
This year, 11 Classy Awards will be distributed, including the People’s Choice Award, which is determined by public vote.
