Stories of Impact: Creating Access to Eyeglasses Supports SDG#1 No Poverty and SDG#2 Zero Hunger

A woman from Guatemala recently attended a vision clinic and broke down in tears after receiving a pair of reading glasses through RestoringVision’s programs and partnership with Caring Partners International.

At 45 years old, she had been unable to work for the last six months due to presbyopia – blurry vision caused by aging that makes it difficult to see up close.

She knits for a living, and with the solution of a pair of reading glasses, she has regained the ability to earn a wage once again. This pair of reading glasses is life-changing, as she can now work, be productive, and earn money to provide for herself and her family.

This is one story highlighting the global vision crisis, and how we can solve it together. Over 1 billion people worldwide have a vision impairment that could have been prevented or has yet to be addressed. Over 90% of people with uncorrected vision loss live in low-and middle-income countries with limited or no access to vision services or eyeglasses. An astonishing 81% only need reading glasses to see clearly again.
